About me and computers.
I have been working with computers for more than 25 years now. Building simple games in basic saved to tape, on a my first computer, a comodorre vic 20.
Then moving on to dos and Windows 3.x with ibm's and Amstrads before discvering the Apple classic running Os6. Now of course it's all Windows Vista, Xp, 2003,2008 , Apple Os 10.5 and server, and increasing moble technologies, virtualised environments and coud computing.

After studying business and finance at college, i worked in a Graphic design for almost 10 years, before moving over to IT in the late 90's working as an It manager in both private and public sector. Working on everything from cabling and configuring telephone and networks systems, to server , desktop, printer, database and software support,. Supporting everything from financial systems and online shops to complex audio visual, lighting, audio and film and video set ups.
I've been on-line since 1997,my first email addresses was from, pipex when they were entirely numeric, and you used dial up bulletin boards rather than direct internet connections to communicate, Today i'm very interested in Social networking and online colaboration working with many on the online communities all over the world. I'm involved with several beta testing projects, shaing the way technology will be used tomorrow.
I have writen a number of articles for local press and computer magazines, and had a clip art collection included on a cover cd for a popular computer publication. |

I currently have 2 blogs. David coxon's It blog on blogger, this maily deals with introducing and explaining new techologies, software and on-line services. David Coxon's World of IT blog on wordpress, this blog is much more serious, highlighting the dangers of computing ,security, privacy, theft, and the internet and explosing the issues, and giving me an excuse to have the odd rant.
About my groups.
As I currently work for a leading contemporary Art Gallery, i work with some of today's leading new media and contemporary artists, and often have some very interesting audio visual challenges from installing marine radar's to synching very large video installations.
I was involved in the thinking digital conference with codeworks last year, as well as taking part in the North East Bar Camp and have recently have been involved in the Ask IT project, the North East IT Directors Forum and North East Flickr pool.
North East IT Manager Network.
I am a member of the steering committee of the North East IT Manager Network. The group was set up in 2007, to provide a support network for IT managers in the North East. We host regular seminars, discussions and networking opportunities to keep IT managers up to date with what is going on in the industry. The North East IT managers network is a part of codeworks, and many of our activities are ran in conjunction with Codeworks events.
